Humboldt, Tennessee is known nationally for its annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival held the second week each May put on by the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.
On Friday, May 11, 2018, the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Horse Show was held at Chalmers Davenport Arena.
Sadly, this Horse Show featured Animal Cruelty to Tennessee Walking Horses (“Big Lick”) gait. This is where horses carry EIGHT POUND shoes and CHAINS hit the sensitive skin above the hooves so the horses will step high.
The “Event Sponsor” was Simmons Bank of Little Rock, AR. Simmons Bank has total assets of $15.1 billion with locations in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Tennessee. As of 2018, there are approximately 150 branches and ATMs in 94 cities.
According to MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) Horse Science Professor Equine Vet Dr. John Haffner, It's Animal Cruelty - “The ‘Big Lick’ is a pain induced gait. It is a business based on the suffering and pain of Horses":
This shocking video - "Here's What Soring Does To Horses" - exposes the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse Racket as ANIMAL CRUELTY.
The video has been viewed over 15 MILLION TIMES times since being released on March 7, 2017. “Soring” is the illegal and cruel practice of using chemical and mechanical methods to create pain in a gaited show horses front feet to exaggerate their animated step.
Here is the “Big Lick” gait on display Friday night, May 11, 2018, with “BABY HORSES” – Two Year Olds – in the Two Year Open Class.
Many times these “BABY HORSES” are started under saddle at the age of 16-17 months old as this Video shows:
The “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty racket is using the annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival, and the Simmons Bank sponsorship to try and obtain legitimacy for what Dr. John Haffner says is Animal Cruelty.
Humboldt (Gibson County) TN is too fine a place, and simply does not need “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty on display as part of its Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival.
Hopefully, the West Tennessee Strawberry Strawberry Festival will do like Germantown, TN, and no longer allow the Horse Show if “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses are going to be exhibited, If not, it will be necessary for “WE, The People” – CCABLAC Animal Welfare Advocates to peacefully assemble in 2019, and publicly protest the Animal Cruelty if it is on display at the West TN Strawberry Festival Horse Show.
“WE, The People” – CCABLAC (Citizens Campaign Against Animal Cruelty To Tennessee Walking Horses (“Big Lick”) has recently ended “Big Lick” Horse Shows in Panama City Beach, FL; Jackson, MS; Lynchburg, TN; Murfreesboro, TN; and Arab, AL.
The “Big Lick" World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse is no longer invited to be exhibited before at the University of Tennessee Homecoming football game. The University of Mississippi has disassociated itself from “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty Horse Show, and refused to accept at $50,000.00 annual contribution to its Children's Hospital.
