Michael Kautz started this petition to Samsung and

In light of Samsung's Android Pie 9 "Updategate" in 2019 for the S8 and S9 reminiscent of Apple using firmware updates to make their phones unusable. It has come to my attention a set of standards should be adopted by the industry by which smart phone updates should be handled and not forced.

Microsoft regretted forcing Windows 10 on computers designed for Windows 7 and Windows 8. A software for a computer is usually made for the life of a computer, the same should be done for smart phones. That being said updates should only contain security and patch fixes for the phone's firmware and the firmware os should remain for the life of the phone from the day of purchase.

When a phone manufacturer changes the os and gui of the phone a user has grown accustomed too, they betray the trust of the user in the product they paid for to begin with. Humans are creatures of habit and especially after the life of the phones warranty has expired the phones firmware becomes the lifeblood of the phone. Any attempt to change it by the manufacture, or force it to change, attacks the very trust of your clientele. After all you shouldn't fix what isn't broken.

Samsung if you do not wish to see your entire client base walk away from your phone line. Provide a means by which users are able to continue using the software you provided from day 1, and don't forcibly manipulate your client base to update to a newer firmware.
