Who Thought This Was A Good Idea??

On a recent trip to Sam's Club I was appalled to see that they had a whole series of tequilas for sale in bottles the shape of handguns, rifles and even AK 47s. It is bad enough that these items are available in liquor stores (where it is far less likely that small kids will see these) but to have them front and center in Sam's Club is simply wrong. Especially in this season of peace, do we really need a product that combines guns and alcohol? Who thought this was a good idea? Is this really the kind of product mix of which Sam Walton (for whom store is named after all) would have been proud?

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Sam's Club/Walmart.

Stop selling gun shaped tequila bottles

On a recent trip to Sam's Club I was appalled to see that they had a whole series of tequilas for sale in bottles the shape of handguns, rifles and even AK 47s. It is bad enough that these items are available in liquor stores (where it is far less likely that small kids will see these) but to have them front and center in Sam's Club is simply wrong. Especially in this season of peace, do we really need a product that combines guns and alcohol? Who thought this was a good idea? This is not a Temperance Movement or an anti-gun petition. This asks that Sam's Club be more responsible for the kind of merchandise its "Roadshow" vendors put in stores.

The local manager said they had gotten other complaints from custormers who could not believe that selling bottles of tequila shaped like automatic weapons was a good idea. They don't have the power to pull merchandise however because these vendors come to them from "corporate."

This is a small plea for common sense at a time when there is already far too much alcohol fueled violence in the world. Do we really need to have alcohol marketed with this violent imagery? In light of all the violence on the US-Mexico border, do we really need to fuel narco stereotypes on the good people of Mexico?

All we ask is a little common sense, a little compassion, a little peace. We ask Sam's Club/Walmart to discontinue sales of these products and we ask Megawine to discontinue marketing them....NOW!
