Der gemeinnützige Verein I.H.H.O.

The Beach Voglia Di Mare (which means 'desire for the sea') in San Felice Circeo is totally unique.
For those people who experience difficulties in everyday life imposed by physical barriers, find at this beach a perfect example of how true accessibility should be achieved.
Everyone is met with a warm welcome and the magical atmosphere is palpable to all. This is all thanks to Sabina Avagliano's dedicated and passionate management of the beach and I.H.H.O (International handicapped holiday organization) and the hard work of all her team.
Sabina proudly carries on the mission started by her parents, Eleonore and Salvatore, who began building Centro Ferie Salvatore more than 40 years ago. The first purpose built hotel in Europe solely for wheelchair users, their friends and family to enjoy a holiday by the sea in beautiful Italy. Voglia di Mare beach and the hotel Centro Ferie Salvatore are inextricably linked and together they offer a unique service in the European and international hospitality sector. Not only do they represent a much needed social aspect to peoples lives but also to their health, wellbeing and importantly has always been a point of reference for, and formed a collective for disability tourism worldwide.
Most importantly of all is the social bridge between those with disabilities of all kinds and those without, who endeavour to understand each other's lives and situations better.
There may, at first glance appear to be many accessible beaches and hotels, even if they comply with EU regulations and laws, but they are often clinical and in reality aren't at all accessible and do not offer the ease of use and autonomy so important to those with extra needs.
Now this amazing place is in danger
According to European law, from 2025 all beach concessions and establishments in Italy will be auctioned to new management
and does not guarantee the continuation of this precious beach for people with disabilities, mobility issues and their friends and family.
It is guests who use the beach themselves who have raised their concerns and alarm that they will lose access to this unique place and lose their right to enjoy nature and the coastline without the barriers they face in everyday life. Several testimonials come from guests of Centro Ferie Salvatore and Voglia di Mare beach, who say that they are
deeply concerned about the situation and the end of this rare and beautiful place would be a disaster for all, not only those who live with disabilities but for society as a whole.
