Access to Saltdean Recreational Area

When the Westbrook Apartments were built in Saltdean a space was lost to the community for exercise and recreation. To compensate a Northern Saltdean Recreational was established for the use of all Saltdean.
Saltdean United Football club has leased this land for some decades. The agreement attached to the lease was that people in Saltdean can continue to use this area unless a football match was being played.
In the last year the lower football pitch has been resurfaced and has been blocked preventing this area being used by the people of Saltdean. This area is now only used for football.
Now the upper area has been closed to the public for a period to enable the football club to treat the upper football playing area.
The concern is that this recreational area will be lost to the people of Saltdean and that it will only be used by Saltdean Football club – losing this area that was pledged to the people.
During the lockdown the upper area was used by families for picnics and for exercise. Dog walkers also use the area regularly. This space has been important to the well-being of local people and its loss would be a significant blow to the community.
We have already lost a substantial part of the recreational area and we fear losing the rest. We hope you will support this petition to guarantee continued access to dog walkers and all. This is an important shared space that must not be lost.
