Demolition of The Black Horse Public House Salford Grade A listed Building

This petition had 720 supporters

This petition is to ensure Salford Council Planning take into consideration the Grade A listing of the the former Black Horse public house which is one of 5 locally listed buildings within the Crescent Conservation Area.  The "Pubs of Manchester" website says that the Black Horse Hotel building, on the Crescent in Salford, was built in 1875.   The Pevsner Guide draws attention to the carved keystones above the ground floor windows that feature blacksmithing tools, a horses' head, a satyr and Bacchus.

A planning application has been submitted on behalf of the property company owned by Betfred founders Fred and Peter Done, for the development of rental apartments at the site of the former Black Horse Hotel in Salford.

Euan Kellie Property Solutions has submitted the application on behalf of Property (Done) Limited to Salford City Council for The Crescent, a private rented sector (PRS) development of 405 apartments, located on the A6.

Designed by 5plus Architects, the Crescent is the sister scheme to the Trinity PRS development, which was granted planning permission in March this year.

According to the propaganda, the Black Horse building will be retained and converted into offices for the development.

The problem is that the actual application to Salford Planning clearly says the Black Horse building is to be demolished.

The purpose of this petition is to ensure any redevelopment of this site and surrounding area takes into consideration the Black Horse buildings Grade A listing status and its importance to the community and Salford’s History.  Far too much of Salford’s local history has been lost to inappropriate redevelopment in the past.  Let’s not have this important piece of local history be lost for future generations.
