On May 30th, 2020, in Salem, Oregon, Salon Owner Lindsey Graham posted a "call to arms" on her Facebook. Many replied to this post openly stating they were willing to "shoot anyone who walked past the salon". For those that are unaware, Graham was being "targeted" because she defied state orders and opened her salon early; endangering the lives of many. Since the recent murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmud Aurbery, Salem residents took to the streets to protest against  police brutality. During one of the nights of many peaceful protests turned violent (incited by Salem PD), Salem PD announced a city-wide curfew. The armed militia, made up of self-declared white supremacists known as the "proud boys" were told by Salem PD officer Mike Johnson to "hide in their cars" so that the police department "wouldn't look like they are playing favorites". This is unacceptable behavior on Salem PD's part and this officer should be terminated. Since this video has released, the only statement Salem PD has made is a pathetic excuse for an apology. The City of Salem's police vision states as, "As an agency, our vision is to be the recog​nized leader of police practices through innovation, equipment, technology, and training in order to fight crime, enhance trust, and protect our community.​​​​​" If you really wanted to build trust, protect the community, and be innovative; take accountability and fire Mike Johnson.

There is no room for white supremacy in Salem.
