Dear Friends,

Please see email below from Stephen Lloyd MP who has written to PM Theresa May seeking her support of his Early Day Motion to hold a Royal Commission into policing.

Please write to your MP seeking their support for the EDM also. Details are included in Stephen's email as to how to identify your MP's contact details if you are not sure as to how to do this. Your support to date is much appreciated but we really need the support of as many MPs as possible now!!!!!!

Kind regards,

Kevin.

Hi Kevin - just to give you an update:

I wrote to the Prime Minister last week (see attached) seeking her support for a Royal Commission. Equally, my office is in contact with the Police Federation to arrange for their senior representative to come to Westminster to discuss the establishing of a Royal Commission. Their support in this would be very helpful, so am hoping after the meeting they agree to row in. I am also continuing to gather support across the political spectrum, so the campaign builds, hopefully, an unstoppable momentum.

One of the most important ways of putting pressure on MPs is for constituents to contact them urging they sign and support my Early Day Motion. Consequently, if you could forward my email to all the 250,000+ signatories of your petition urging that they write to their own MP seeking his/her support of my EDM it would be of great help to the campaign. As before, please kick here for the EDM link:

https://www.parliament.uk/edm/2017-19/1656 and click here if people do not know who their Member of Parliament is: https://www.writetothem.com/

If Change.org won't allow my letter as a pdf attachment, I've pasted the text below for info. Can I leave it to you to progress with change.org?

With best wishes,

Stephen.

Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing to you to ask the Government supports the call for a Police Royal Commission to be established.

Thus far, the petition on the matter, started by retired police officer Kevin Moore, has garnered well over 250,000 signatures. In addition to this, an Early Day Motion which I tabled a few weeks ago has also received significant cross-party support, with 38 MPs signed to date.

This has all come about because many of us in the House, and across the UK, believe passionately in the value of our police services to keep both the public, and our nation, free from harm. Rightly or wrongly, however, there are profound concerns re the budgets and resources the police have received over the last few years. Concerns around exactly what policing should mean and what direction our services should take in the future?

All these are often difficult to determine as there is much conflicting evidence, spin and miscommunication from all sides. These contradictions prevent, in my and many others’ view, the public understanding exactly what is needed to properly resource the police or from even having a meaningful, intelligent debate on how it should look in the 21st Century.

I would be grateful therefore if you would support my and others’ call for a Police Royal Commission to be set up.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
