Regarding the City of Saint John’s proposal to rezone 5.18 hectare of land within Rockwood Park at 1671 Sandy Point Road from “park” to “residential”. Saint John Common Council was scheduled to vote Tuesday, November 14, whether or not the City should initiate the re-zoning process for a part of Rockwood Park for housing development. This vote has been postponed due to an error made in the public advertisement and the Common Council is considering re-advertising the proposed amendment and holding a second public feedback (December 11, 2017 to January 10, 2018). Comments from both periods will then be considered by the Council before they vote. We suspect this is a delay tactic resulting from the strong opposition from all of us. What can you do? “Wear Green for Rockwood Park” Show up wearing green at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting (between 6:30-930 PM, November 14th, Council Chamber City Hall, 15 Market Square). A show of park supporters in the Council Chamber could influence their decision making process. None of the public can speak but you can hear what your councillors and mayor have to say. This issue is towards the end of the agenda, so it may not be dealt with until after 7:30PM. Why wear green? It will only take a single person saying ‘we are wearing green for Rockwood park’ for the impact of our attendance to be obvious. Drop in just to be seen for 30 minutes if you can’t stay for the whole time. https://saverockwoodpark.weebly.com/updates/vote-delayed-in-favour-of-a-second-public-consultation-period
