Sainsburys - stop causing dangerous traffic chaos in our village!
The Issue
They said they’d put resource on it round the clock to finish on time…but they aren’t.

We are calling for Sainsburys to:
1) Put more resource into finishing these highly disruptive roadworks so they can reopen roads asap
2) acknowledge the disruption their approach to this project has caused
3) repair the damage to the roads being used as cut-through.
WHAT’S HAPPENED:
On the 31 October 2022, to expand a roundabout because of a new Sainsburys, two roads forming a vital part of a busy cross roads were closed. For six months.
It is unnecessary as the work could have been completed quicker. There is a tiny workforce on the Project. Work is behind the planned schedule - which shows that only one closed road is being worked on at a time.
Sainsburys are ignoring all emails from villagers, hiding behind their PR Firm who trots out stock answers.
IMPACT ON OUR VILLAGE
Sainsburys contractors have broken through a sewer pipe, causing raw sewage to pour down residential roads.
We are also experiencing daily the misery this is causing in our village:
- increased traffic on walking routes to school with children exposed to increased pollution
- chaos at a small crossroads where traffic is now going, with people witnessing near-misses from cars frantic to pull out
- increased journey times due to increased traffic
- any Road Traffic Accidents in the surrounding areas means Hook becomes a bottle neck and grid locked instantly.
It is unnecessary. The official Scheme of Work shows that there will never be work on both roads at once. A blanket closure of SIX MONTHS has been put in place.
Sainsburys are ignoring villagers repeated reports of near misses, lorries, vans and extra traffic on residential streets and roads that children have to cross to walk to school.
Please sign the petition to get Sainsburys and Hampshire County Council to put more people on this work, to work on both closed roads simultaneously, to get the work done and GET OUT OF OUR VILLAGE!
