A big thank you to everyone who took part in the Day of Action on Saturday! It was fantastic to see so many of you taking a stand for Fairtrade outside your local stores – Sainsbury’s really can’t continue to ignore their valued customers.
Check out #NotMyCupofTea on Twitter to see just a snippet of the action: http://bit.ly/2inWPBx
Online, campaigners targeted 85% of stores. Offline, people did a huge amount – from craftivism to improvised drama in the checkout queue! The day got lots of local press coverage. Here are some of my highlights:
- Not our cup of tea – protesters at Sainsbury’s after they ditch Fairtrade product, Cambridge News: http://bit.ly/2A02k0k
- Fairtrade protesters make a stand outside Sainsbury’s in Hatch Warren, Basingstoke Gazette: http://bit.ly/2Aa6GTE
- Day of action in Fairtrade campaign, Worthing Herald: http://bit.ly/2zcwHn4
- Fairtrade campaigners take on supermarket giant, Wiltshire Gazette & Herald: http://bit.ly/2gXZWjh
- Sainsbury's accused of 'heavy-handedness' after threatening Christian Fairtrade campaigners with police action, Christian Today: http://bit.ly/2z9J97H
How did your day go? Please let me know in the comments and share links to any photos or press coverage you received – I would love to see and hear how you all got on!
If you didn’t manage to get to your local Sainsbury’s, you can still join in by handing in a letter (like this: http://bit.ly/2yqksEj) this weekend.
Don’t forget to let CAFOD know when you hear back from your store manager, drop them a line at campaigns@cafod.org.uk
And I’ll let you all know when I get a response from Mike Coupe to my invitation to meet with him in person. I hope you’ll help me think of some good questions to ask him!
