Hi everyone,

Hooning complaints are now occurring on a very frequent basis ie. at least a few times per week.

Sadly, the Melbourne Cup festivities mean the hoons are out and about again now and will continue with the warmer weather.

Council will be holding a meeting this Wednesday to vote for the hire of CCTV which is a start in deterring this group from coming to Port Melbourne as a 'destination' to showcase their cars, bikes and speeding prowess.

We ask you to please send a note of support to the Councillors in your ward (details below). A template has been put together for your convenience.

Please send this by Wednesday midday.

Many thanks,

Louisa and team formed to combat hooning

TEMPLATE

Dear Councillors,

This coming Wednesday’s CoPP Council meeting contains an item (10.4) concerning the potential hire of a mobile CCTV camera for use in the city. Council officers recommend that the CoPP apply for a grant to fund this and, if that application is not successful, the CoPP fund the hire of the camera to be used at the police's discretion.

I am writing to you to request you vote in favour of this recommendation. Hoon activity on our streets has been increasing with the events on the night of Wednesday 27 October as one of many examples. These are visitors from other suburbs who travel here in convoy,  disrupt our streets and our parking, engage in stunts creating undesirable noise and smoke, potentially importing COVID to our unvaccinated and spend little or no money in our shops. This is completely disruptive to any enjoyment in our homes, local cafes and restaurants. Even taking a walk along our foreshore can be fraught with danger as hoon drivers have little consideration for pedestrians in their pursuit of this disruptive behaviour.

The recommendation to be tabled on Wednesday evening offers some hope from this illegal, dangerous and nuisance behaviour and you should vote for it.
