Safety First—Not Sexual Harassment: Demand Tougher Protections at WNBA Games

The Issue

In recent weeks, multiple WNBA games have been disrupted by men throwing sex toys from the stands—some hitting children, others narrowly missing players. These aren’t isolated stunts. They’re part of a disturbing, coordinated campaign to degrade, distract, and endanger athletes and fans—particularly in women’s sports.

This isn’t a prank. It’s sexual harassment, plain and simple. And it’s happening in public arenas with families, kids, and professional athletes present.

At least three arrests have already been made, and reports tie the incidents to a cryptocurrency group using them for meme publicity. But the consequences have not been nearly strong enough to match the harm.

We, the undersigned, are calling on:

The WNBA and arena security leadership to adopt and enforce league-wide safety protocols—including stricter pre-entry bag checks, enhanced video monitoring, and a public zero-tolerance policy on sexually explicit disruptions.

City officials and law enforcement to treat these incidents as what they are: assault and harassment, not spectacle. Prosecute them accordingly.

WNBA players deserve the same protection, dignity, and respect as any other professional athlete. If this happened at an NBA game, the outrage would be immediate. The action would be swift. The bans would be permanent.

Let’s send a message that this ends now.
