I believe that as women, we need to be able to select our own cab driver. Before we agree to make a reservation using an internet app, we should be able to view a picture of them and ensure that they have a current DBS check. Since pretty much all taxi drivers are male, there have been numerous instances in which women have been raped or have not felt secure. When not making a reservation over the phone or online, all taxis should be simple to identify that they are a legitimate company.

There has been a few cases in my hometown in Lancashire and here are a few more:

Adam Ali, 43, used his car to drive vulnerable young girls to various locations where he assaulted them.

On 15 April 2023, Fareed Issa Tariq, 43, picked up the woman as she was waiting for a taxi after a night out in Swindon and then drove to a quiet layby where he sexually assaulted her.

Nazim Asmal, 35, would lure women on a night out into his car by pretending he was a taxi driver before taking them to secluded places and raping them.

Dediki Mosi, 37, of Bolton, sexually assaulted the 29-year-old after he collected her in Wigan on 19 September 2020
