Make 87th Avenue Safer: Install Speed Humps Near Cheyenne Elementary and Peoria High School

Petition Description:

We, the residents of Peoria, AZ, are calling on the City of Peoria to install speed humps on 87th Avenue, just south of Cactus Avenue, to protect our families, children, and community members from dangerous speeding.

87th Avenue runs through a busy residential area and serves as a direct route past Cheyenne Elementary School and Peoria High School. It’s heavily used not only by local traffic, but also by drivers trying to bypass congested main roads and traffic lights.

Every day, families with children, students walking to school, dog walkers, runners, and elderly residents use this street. Despite this, many drivers speed through this area without concern for pedestrians or posted speed limits—putting lives at risk day and night.

This road was not designed to be a high-speed cut-through, but without any speed-reduction measures, it has become exactly that. We have seen too many close calls, and we fear it’s only a matter of time before something tragic happens.

We are urging the City of Peoria to prioritize the safety of our community by installing speed humps or similar traffic calming solutions on 87th Avenue, south of Cactus Avenue. This is a critical step toward preventing injury or loss of life and ensuring that our neighborhoods are safe for all who live, walk, and learn here.

• Conduct a traffic and speed study of 87th Avenue

• Approve the installation of speed humps or other traffic calming measures

• Prioritize the safety of students, residents, and pedestrians in this high-use area
