Safeguard Our Forests, Flora and Fauna from Industrial Exploitation in India
The Issue
I wish to share a deeply held fear of mine, the sorrowful song of birds and animals losing their homes. Each day in Hyderabad, Chhattisgarh, and many other areas across India, vast swaths of forest are being felled in the name of industry. Splendid trees that have stood tall for centuries are being reduced to logs, snatching away havens of countless birds and animals.
As per a recent report by the World Bank, the industrial sector in India grew at a rate of 6.1% during the last fiscal year. While this may seem like positive news to some, it hardly takes into account the devastating effect this growth has on our environment. Rich biodiversity regions are disappearing, our air is becoming more polluted, and the cries of our wildlife resonate strongly in the hearts of those who listen.
I am afraid that the pace at which we are advancing is not sustainable for our planet, and will ultimately harm both our wild brethren and us. Namely, the loss of biodiversity can significantly impact our food security and health. According to the World Wildlife Fund, in one such instance, indiscriminate logging in the Himalayas has threatened the genetic diversity of rice - an essential food source for India.
We cannot sit by and watch helplessly as our forests are destroyed and their inhabitants left homeless. It is our duty as inhabitants of this earth to ensure that we progress in a manner that is mindful of the flora and fauna sharing this home with us.
That's why I call on both the local and central government to implement stricter regulations to mitigate the impact of industrial activities on our forests. I urge everyone who is reading this to consider the sorrowful song of our birds and animals, to join this fight and take action against this industrial revolution washing away their homes. Please, sign this petition today.
