I am a passionate passenger rail supporter, personally invested in the survival of Amtrak's Heartland Flyer. The proposed discontinuation of this rail line doesn't just affect my own transportation choices, it signals a concerning regression in our transport system. 

Trains offer a more sustainable, environmentally friendly means of transport, a fact we should be prioritizing, not undermining. Instead of reducing rail service, we should be embracing it. An end to the Heartland Flyer is likely to result in more vehicles on our roads, contributing to rising greenhouse gas emissions.

 Research by the U.S. Department of Transportation showed that rail travel emits up to 75% less greenhouse gas than driving and up to 90% less than flying, highlighting its critical role in our transition towards carbon neutrality (U.S. Department of Transportation report, 2017). 

The Heartland Flyer isn't just a train; it's an integral part of our collective journey toward a more sustainable future. Let's not veer off that track now. Action is needed to save the Heartland Flyer – for the environment's sake, for our sake.
