Petition for Safe Pedestrian Access on Valley Line and Indian Meal Line, Torbay

We are calling on the Town of Torbay and the appropriate provincial authorities to prioritize the installation of sidewalks or safe pedestrian pathways along Valley Line and Indian Meal Line.

These roads are used by families, children, seniors, and pedestrians who need a safe way to travel throughout our community. Many households have only one vehicle, or may not have access to a vehicle at all, making walking an important and necessary form of transportation—not simply a recreational activity.

As a mother of three children, including a four-year-old and an infant, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to safely walk these roads with a stroller and young children. I live between two parks, yet I cannot comfortably walk to either one with my children because of fast-moving traffic, limited shoulder space, gravel, and uneven areas along the roadside. There is often not enough room for a stroller and a child to safely travel while allowing vehicles to pass.

Torbay is a growing community, and residents deserve safe, accessible pedestrian infrastructure that allows children and families to walk to parks, visit neighbours, access local services, and participate in their community without having to rely entirely on a vehicle.

We respectfully ask that sidewalks or another safe, accessible pedestrian pathway be considered and prioritized for Valley Line and Indian Meal Line to improve safety and mobility for residents of all ages.
