A basic traffic stop should not become a life-or-death event for an entire community.

I started Safe Pursuit SC to ask our state to prohibit high-speed police chases that begin solely over minor, nonviolent traffic violations—such as failing to signal, an expired tag, or an equipment issue.

This is not about excusing anyone who runs from police. Failure to stop would still be a crime, and the driver could still be identified, arrested, and prosecuted. It is about protecting innocent motorists, passengers, pedestrians, officers, and families when safer ways to make an arrest are available.

Pursuits should be reserved for violent crimes and genuine, immediate threats to public safety—not ordinary traffic violations.
