Safe Pedestrian/Bicycle passage on I-77/SC-160 Fort Mill, between Baxter and Kingsley.

The Issue

WALKERS, JOGGERS, RUNNERS,BICYCLIST, OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS, REALTORS, HOME-OWNERS, AND LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO SUPPORT THESE ACTIVITIES!!!    OUR GOAL IS TO REACH 100 SIGNATURES (OR MAYBE 4000)!

Please sign this petition to show your support for safe pedestrian/cycling access between Baxter Village and Kingsley in Fort Mill, as the SC DOT plans to reconfigure the SC 160/I-77 interchange.  It would be incredibly unfortunate to reconfigure this interchange an neglect to include a safe pedestrian/cyclist right of way!!

What? The SC Department of Transportation (DOT) will reconfigure the SC 160 / I-77 Interchange (Exit 85 serving Baxter Village and Kingsley in Fort Mill). Current plans do not show ped/rolling access. Sign this petition to say that you want this project to include safe walking/running/rolling/ cycling access! The interchange design dictates how direct, safe and usable the ped/bike pathway would be.

Why? Residents and workers should be able to walk, run, bike and roll safely between Baxter Village and Kingsley and eventually to other locations in Fort Mill, without impeding or fearing traffic. This will reduce traffic congestion helping residents, workers and commuters; lower conflict between cars, bicycles and pedestrians; improve physical fitness and health; improve air quality; help local businesses by improving access; and overall improve quality of life for drivers, residents and workers.  Add dedicated ped/cycle infrastructure now, as congestion will only get worse!  Too often we hear that it is too late to make improvements – this is the advanced notice we need!   Again, It would be incredibly unfortunate to reconfigure this interchange an neglect to include a safe pedestrian/cyclist right of way!!

There are a couple of upcoming meetings:

- Monday, January 20 from 5:30-6:30pm at the "Book Room" (by front entrance) of the Baxter Close YMCA, in Baxter Village, Fort Mill.

-Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 5-7 PM at Real Life Church, 1930 Pleasant Road,Fort Mill, SC 29708
