Remove new changes to London Congestion Charge for those residing in the congestion zone
Why this petition matters
Transport for London recently introduced new changes to the congestion charge for driving in London. Charges went from being £10 if driving Monday - Friday, 07:00 - 18:00, to £15 any day you drive (except Christmas Day), between hours 07:00 - 22:00. This was said to have been introduced to 'reduce traffic levels in central London and enable more journeys to be made safely by foot or bike, while keeping the bus network reliable for those making essential journeys' (tfl.gov.uk).
On top of this, and more frustratingly for people who actually live in London's congestion zone, the existing residents' discount (90% discount if living within the certain 'discount zone') has been 'temporarily' removed as well. This means that even those who reside in the congestion zone of London have to pay the same fees for using their car. These residents may require a car to do their essential shopping, or, ironically, to actually drive away from the congestion zone.
This is totally unreasonable. We call on the Mayor of London to find a more feasible solution to reducing car pollution and traffic in our great city, a solution that does not discriminate against the less financially-able.
