Hi everyone and thank you so much for signing our petition. TfL have now requested the Department for Transport create and authorise the use of a Keep Clear type road marking for roadside bus shelters!
Yesterday, UNICEF UK released "The Toxic School Run" a report on new data from Queen Mary’s University London that looks at children’s exposure to air pollution across the school day. The data finds children are disproportionately exposed to higher doses of pollution during the school run and while they are at school.
Lead researcher, Dr Abigail Whitehouse says: “Children only spend 7 per cent of their day travelling to and from school but receive 15 per cent of their daily exposure to air pollution during this time.”
We need to do more to protect children as they travel to nursery and school. We know that the highest pollution levels during the school run comes from idling congested traffic. There is a way to reduce these vehicle emissions by over 70% on some of our busiest roads and once again we need your support.
We’ve identified a simple low cost traffic management solution and we’re asking TfL to pilot it on West Hill in Wandsworth. Here’s the petition: https://www.change.org/p/sadiq-khan-please-pilot-this-low-cost-idea-to-reduce-vehicle-emissions-children-breathe-when-travelling-on-our-busiest-roads
It's a tough slow journey to bring about meaningful change but a worthwhile one if we can help children breathe just that little bit easier.
Thank you once again for all your support.
David
