Petition updateDeclare London independent from the UK and apply to join the EU.The Plan To Protect Our Rights Post-Brexit

I started the Londependence petition hours after the EU referendum result because I was mad as hell and wanted to keep my city apart from the worst elements of the Leave campaign: the anti-immigrant dog whistling, the attacks on human rights and the contempt they showed for 'experts'.
And new Prime Minister Theresa May didn't fill me with confidence either. She doesn't just want us to leave the European Union (with a hard Brexit), she has also consistently signalled that she wants the UK to leave the European Convention on Human Rights. This would have a devastating impact on our ability to hold the powerful to account.
You may be wondering what has the petition actually achieved? Well - I've got good news...
Thanks to a group of generous Londependence signatories, we crowdfunded a proper analysis of the human rights we may lose due to Brexit and worked out a plan to try and protect them. You can read it here: http://www.89up.org/report/theyre-your-rights-fight-them
The team behind it have come up with a very clever plan indeed to protect our human rights.
They want to send a delegation of human rights activists, experts and campaigners to Brussels to lobby the European Union to ensure that there should be no free trade deal with the UK without explicit and specific human rights guarantees in the deal.
This means Theresa May won't be able to tear up our human rights. Full stop.
The delegation needs funding - so can I ask you to please consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign to make this audacious plan happen:

This could be our last chance to save human rights from Theresa May before the next general election. If you can donate, you could make a huge difference.
Cheers,
James
