We have not had confirmation from the Greater London Authority on which occupations will be included on their keyworker list yet, but the strength of this petition shows that the public believes that care and support workers deserve access to affordable housing!
It is hard to think of a workforce performing more vital work that is valued less by society. In 2019/20, 90% of care workers in London received below the Real Living Wage.
I'm sure that everyone who signed this petition would agree, the work we do deserves much, much more than poverty wages and empty applause.
To kick off Professional Care Workers Week, on the Saturday 4th of September Care and Support Workers Organise (CaSWO!) are hosting a DAY OF ACTION with events happening in London, Manchester, Preston, and Newcastle.
As well as access to affordable housing, we will also be demanding a £15 per hour minimum wage, fair contracts, full sick pay, and social care services fit for purpose!
