Reopen the Sacramento State Aquatic Center
Reopen the Sacramento State Aquatic Center
The Issue
There is no disputing that COVID-19 is having a major impact on our community and our nation. There is also no disputing the health benefits of exercising outdoors and getting fresh air. With other recreational facilities opening in the Sacramento Region, it is baffling that the Sacramento State Aquatic Center’s gates are still closed. The Aquatic Center has been a staple in the community for over 30 years. It is home to a community of rowers, outrigger canoe paddlers, sailing, kayaking, and water recreation enthusiasts. The Center’s role in community water safety is immeasurable and a great benefit to our regional population. According to the CDC “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of recreational waters.” They recommend “Following safe swimming practices along with social distancing and everyday preventative actions to protect yourself.”
With the enormous physical and mental health benefits that are gained from outdoor recreation and more people turning to the waterways in the Sacramento region. It is more prudent than ever to provide individuals with boating safety education and a way to safety recreate on our waterways. With the proper safety protocols in place there is no reason to deny our community the opportunity to safely recreate while promoting our physical and mental health.
Please help support the petition to reopen the Aquatic Center. Our community needs it.
