Skatepark for Downtown Sacramento

The Issue

There is a growing, thriving skateboarding community in Sacramento. From all ages, genders, religions, races, etc. we are united by one thing that is skateboarding.

We all know that downtown Sacramento is rapidly expanding to become an amazing place for entertainment and leisure, particularly the DOCO area. The emergence of the Golden One center has proven to be great for the people of Sacramento. However, an issue has arisen. Skaters like myself and many others have been skating in the DOCO area, including the tunnels leading to old Sacramento and surrounding parking lots,to the dismay of security and others. We do not do this to be a disturbance though, and we recognize how dangerous this can be. However where else in the area is there to go and skate? All we want is to spend time with friends and family doing what we love.

This brings us to the proposal of a skate plaza or skatepark for downtown Sacramento. Other skateparks closest to the area such as 28th and B have limited hours and cost money that some may not have the luxury to afford. Granite skatepark is popular however it is far from the heart of Sacramento and has an issue with crime which may deter many. The next closest is McClatchy skatepark but it's obvious that there is a large demand for something more, something  that can be a source of pride for the people of Sacramento.
