Sack Lord Freud from Government after he remarked Disabled People were not worth the minimum wage

This petition had 29,243 supporters

Lord Freud was caught commenting that disabled people are not worth the minimum wage and deserve to be paid a lot less. This comment is prejudicial, reinforces the notion that disabled people are not able to contribute to society in the same way as others and is, we believe, a hate crime. We cannot see how he could remain a Government Minister whilst holding this extreme and unacceptably prejudicial opinion.

Grass roots disabled groups have for a long time been campaigning for both greater inclusion into society and how best to overcome the barriers we currently face. This statement from the ConDems Welfare Minister reinforces the prejudice and discrimination we face on a daily basis and is not helpful in our fight to achieve equality of opportunity within society, as guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities.

In an attempt to force society into considering the role disabled people have to play some novice activists set up an e-petition, run by and for grass roots disabled people calling on the Government to debate and understand the cumulative effect of all of the changes they were making to the support it gave to disabled people.

The WOWpetition ran on the Government's e-petition website and attracted 104,803 signatures triggering a main chamber debate in the House of Commons Hansard Column 423 which took place on the 27th February 2014. The motion passed during this debate has been ignored and it could be argued a Government Minister was either disingenuous or told a lie during the debate. We believe those that signed the WOWpetition and the ill and disabled people living in the UK deserve to be taken seriously and call upon the Government to schedule a new debate of the WOWpetition as the situation disabled people find themselves in has seriously deteriorated since the first debate.

We demand that society forms a New Deal with the millions of sick and disabled people living in the UK that includes us and values us appropriately.
