Developer Victor Paul was reported telling that Tanjung Aru beach has eroded 50 meters in the last 40 years during the 5th Sabah International Surveyors’ Congress 2017. His statement, even so was backed up by the recent SEIA report, never seem to be seen on site or agreed by many old folks who has been living near and visiting the beach for more than 40 years. Tanjung Aru beach seems to be pretty much stable and need not to be rehabilitated with massive reclamation project when compare to other beach such as Tok Jembal beach, Terengganu, http://www.thestar.com.my/news/environment/2014/09/29/saving-the-terengganu-coastline-from-erosion/ Tok Jembal beach started eroding after the project to deepen the Sungai Terengganu river mouth and was made worst by the reclamation expansion of the nearby airport runway in 2010. If Developer Victor Paul really concern about the disappearing beach, he should consider going there and help the Tok Jembal people in saving their beach. What actually Tanjung Aru beach really need is proper greenery rehabilitation with planting more aru casuarina trees to replace the old trees and better upkeep of the beach to maintain cleanliness. Tanjung Aru beach also need facilities upgrade such as more jogging and cycling tracks and improvement to existing facilities along the beach to better facilitate the influx of tourist and visitors during week end or holidays. Developer Victor Paul was reported said he will start the construction at the beginning of next years and complete it in 3 years which an eyesores for the tourist and visitors whom come see and take photos of the sun set. Before that, we have plan some activities in hope to raise some funds to hire a legal consultant and experts to save our beautiful beach from being taken away to be replaced with golf course and marina resorts.
