Hello Fine Campaigners
We all had a great night yesterday at Wandsworth Town Hall.
Tipping my battered trilby to the council officers who pulled together that forensic 131-page report and to the diligent members of Planning Applications Committee who vetoed Rockwell's proposal in a resoundingly unanimous vote.
At the end of nearly two hours of debate, which delivered excoriating criticism of Rockwell's hopes to build a grotesque tower by the bridge, Chairman Cllr Tony Belton toppled the plans with a blunt one-line summary: "I see that no-one is supporting this application." Quite.
It has been a busy day here, as regards press activity. Expect widespread coverage tomorrow and in the coming days. A few pieces have already gone live online. I am adding links below.
It is nearly time for me to say farewell. Before my valedictory post, I need to make something crystal clear:
I was aghast last night to be told by someone very close to this campaign that he was under the impression that I have been receiving funds from Change.org for this campaign for the past year. What! That is SO wrong. In the footer of my citation, it clearly states that I get nothing.
I have worked on this happily as a volunteer. I have not had a single penny from Change - or anyone. I have actually complained to them (on this campaign and before) about their "donations" system, which makes it look as though campaigners get cash from people signing.
I am very happy to have done this work, even though it has been hard and time consuming. The heartfelt thanks that I received last night from so many people, and all along the way, has been reward enough.
My next post will be a round of publicity and my Thank Yous. Until then, enjoy the sunshine and the victory. Fist bump emoji.
Best wishes
RMc
