On Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, Joyce Echaquan was hospitalized for stomach pain. Despite refusing to receive morphine, she was administered the medication by the health care staff there and lost her life. She recorded the last few moments of her life, where racist and hateful statements were made by the nurses caring for her.

It is NOT enough to just fire a nurse associated with her care. There are also accounts of another nurse who was involved in her care. 

The nurses responsible for her death should be prosecuted by the law. This is not just negligence, this is a hate crime. This is murder motivated by racism. 

We cannot tolerate nor make any excuse for their behaviors. They knew exactly what they are doing. Again, firing them is NOT ENOUGH. These nurses do not deserve to call themselves nurses. 

We are calling on the Government of Québec, Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec, the Québec Police force and the Lanaudière hospital to launch a criminal investigation onto the nurses responsible for Joyce's death IMMEDIATELY.
