Make BHS More Inclusive For LGBT Students

Make BHS More Inclusive For LGBT Students
The Issue
Problem
At Burlington Iowa Community High School, it has been repeatedly seen that students belittle, harass, and threaten LGBT people at the school. This petition is to try and change it.
Solution
A possible solution is to have an assembly where LGBT students talk about their experiences at the school/in the world and the school staff can really show that the school will not tolerate harassment towards LGBT students.
Personal story
I'm Ryland James Cook; I'm 16 years old, and I am a junior at Burlington High School. I'm also a transgender male (FtM).
On October 11th of 2018, I put posters up in every bathroom on school grounds. These posters said as follows:
"Do you feel like someone is using the 'wrong' bathroom?
Please don't:
-Stare at them
-Challenge them
-Insult them
=Do not purposefully make them uncomfortable.
Instead, please:
-Respect their privacy
-Respect their identity
-Carry on with your day
=Protect them from harm
They are using the facilities they feel safe in. Please do NOT take this right away from them.
Trans* and gender questioning students...
You have every right to be here:
-In this facility
-In this school
-In this world
Your gender identity and expression are valid."
By the end of the day, all of the posters had been viciously torn down by students.
According to Iowa Code section 216.9, trans* students are legally allowed to use the restrooms/facilities of the gender they identify as, play on the sports-team as the gender they identify as and have a school where anti-discrimination rules are in place.
I emailed the superintendent of the school district a long email explaining the problem and saying me and many students take issue with the fact the school does nothing to protect trans*/LGBT people; I got no response, and I emailed it on October 12th (the day after the incident.)
I and all the other LGBT students at BHS have rights, and we will not stand by as people try and take them from us.
