Make the Address Confidentiality Program Bill a Priority in Michigan!

The Issue

After six years and two reintroductions of the Address Confidentiality Program Bill (ACP; Senate Bill # 0070), the bill will expire in December 2020 without your support. The State of Michigan must make this bill a priority. The ACP Bill will provide a safe mailing address for victims to utilize without disclosing their home location. This prevents abusers from using DMV records, voting registration, state licensing, etc. to locate victims in hiding. By overlooking the ACP bill, victims of domestic violence, sex trafficking, sexual assault and stalking are in jeopardy. On average, 120 women are killed in the state of Michigan by intimate or ex- partners each year. As of 2020, 38 other states already have similar bills in place to protect victims.

We are asking for your support to demonstrate how dangerous ignoring this bill and not making it a priority will be. It is vital to communicate to our State Representatives and Senators with the power to create change and protect victims that the people of Michigan are in support of this legislation. If this Bill is not passed by December 2020, the legislation will be forced to expire again. As a result, victims in our state will continue to go unprotected and be at risk of further abuse or death. By signing the petition you are demonstrating your support for the bill and expressing your desire for State Legislators to pass the bill before it expires.
