The State of New Jersey is threatening to sever Rutgers-Camden, and the Department of Childhood Studies, from Rutgers University as a whole, thereby diminishing the program and negatively impacting students, faculty and scholarship.

Letter to
Rutgers University Board of Trustees
We, the undersigned, oppose any plan that would separate the Camden campus from Rutgers University. Such a move would constitute a significant loss in international reputation and prestige for all programs at RU-Camden, including especially the Childhood Studies department—which is the first and only doctoral granting program in the field of childhood studies in North America. In the five years of its existence, this department has made several achievements, including international conferences, collaborative publications, and an online network, that have helped bring the international community and scholarship of childhood studies into conversation with each other.

As members of the international childhood studies scholarly community, we express our support for the Rutgers-Camden program. We do not want to see the already notable contributions of the Childhood Studies department at Rutgers-Camden be diminished, as it most assuredly would by the proposed merger with Rowan University.
