After a year of town halls and meetings, Rutgers- University Camden has decided not to remove the Walt Whitman statue that stands today in the middle of our campus. They have decided to relocate and "contextualize" the statue. In my opinion there is no proper context for white supremacy, and such a "diverse" and "inclusive" University should understand this sentiment. Although I have had individual professors at this university who have tried to "contextualize" racism to me, a black woman, in the past, I expected more from our institution. Our fight for the removal of the Walt Whitman statue continues today. No more contextualizing white supremacists. Our pay, Our say!
