Evacuation of Residents, Medical Testing, Property, Illness & Death Compensation
The Issue
RUBiS Bahamas service station in the area of Marathon constituency or New Providence have leaked thousands of gallons if not tens of thousands of gallons of oil into near by surround area within close proximity to dozens of residential homes and businesses. RUBiS have carried out it's remediation process for the oil clean up for the past two years without emergency steps to safeguard residents and other businesses. Therefore we are holding RUBiS not only in regards to its cleanup duties but the safeguard and financial duties to the residents of Marathon.
The Government of the Bahamas on the other hand received the report and made decisions to hold on to the consultancy firm reports without notice to residents for more than a year. The information to the report was read to scanty few of the residents in a town meeting a week ago (many of who didn't know of the town meeting because the government decided to put notice on only one of many radio stations). Besides we were informed that residents east of the service station (only 50 ft away) is in no danger. So then, when asked "can we drink our water now" the GOVERNMENT response is "NO DON'T USE THE WATER." Therefor we are holding the Government of the Bahamas in derelict of its duties to the health and safety of the residents of Marathon.
