Ban the Sale of Fireworks to the general public

Ban the Sale of Fireworks to the general public
Every year there are calls for the regulation of firework sales. There have been SIX parliamentary debates on the topic in recent years, and the overwhelming majority of this country wants to see the sales of fireworks to the general public completely banned. Only those licensed to run organised firework displays should be allowed to purchase fireworks.
Every year people are injured - some with life-changing injuries - as the result of misuse of fireworks. Pets are traumatised, young children terrified, army veterans are caused unnecessary stress and flashbacks to the trauma of war, and elderly people are afraid to leave their homes.
The ability to purchase fireworks off the shelf encourages young people to engage in dangerous anti-social behaviour. Firefighters are attacked by gangs of youths while putting out fires, and the police simply do not have the resources to deal with the number of incidents that occur.
Unregulated bonfires and use of fireworks also contribute to global warming - at a time when we are committing to reduce greenhouse gases.
None of this is necessary if the government has the gumption to pass an Act of Parliament banning the sales of fireworks to the general public. No more promises of reviews or consultations that never happen. No more debates that are not acted on. We, the public, are calling on the UK government to ACT NOW!
WE DEMAND that the sale of fireworks be banned to anyone except licensed event organisers well before November 5th 2022.
