Imagine if you would; you have just woken up, you are getting a cup of tea and some toast when out of the blue your door is knocked down and you are taken from your home because of the way you look. That's what happened to Hank, the 3 year old lab-Staffie cross. No, this is not 1940's Germany this is happening today in 2016 in the UK. Hank and hundreds of other animals are forcibly removed from their home by the police and animal wardens and being euthanized because they look like pit bulls, or other dangerous dogs. Why are authorities taking dogs from people homes in the UK? The law says they can, breed-specific legislation (BSL) is a law that bans or restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance, usually because they are perceived as “dangerous” breeds or types of dogs. BSL is an ethical failure. BSL is a public safety failure. BSL is failing families and their pets. There are no such things as bad dogs. There are however bad owners who don't treat dogs with the love and respect they deserve. These types of dogs are often used for fighting, or worse some will lock them in cages, or abuse them. Eventually like a human these dogs become aggressive and lash out, thus making them aggressive and dangerous. Dogs are not something you can treat like trash and throw them away. A dog is for life. As well as with the following conditions: This petition is asking That Breed-specific legislation (BSL) is reviewed and overhauled to become more in line with today's current thinking about animals and these types of dogs; That a dog can not be forcibly removed from their home without the owner being present. That a dog can not be remove without justice cause - simply looking a like a It bull isn't sufficient there must be sound evidence showing that the dog has attacked someone or is behaving dangerously in some way; That anyone who has used a dog like a pit bull for more aggressive - sinister reasons should face punishment under the animal welfare act; Invest into veterinary research: That the government invest money into research to help better identify dangerous dogs through genetic research and sequencing of the whole genome. Every attempt should be made in order to prosperity identity these animals and using a vet to look at a dog, see his / her feature isn't enough. Understanding these animals genetic code however could save thousands of pets from death. According to a wall know charity 71% of pit bull terriers would have made a good family pet. BSL does not improve public safety or prevent dog bites. BSL ignores the plight of victims and potential victims of non-targeted breeds. BSL is costly. BSL requires each and every dog to be identified as a breed—something that has proven impossible to do accurately and objectively. BSL makes targeted breeds more desirable to irresponsible and criminal owners. BSL does nothing to make irresponsible dog owners accountable. BSL punishes responsible dog owners. Not a single canine welfare organisation supports BSL. Please sign this petition and share it letting your friends and family know you do not stand for a government which destroys dogs based on how they look.
