Since the launch of this petition on Friday 5th September, we welcome the announcement from Rt Hon Justine Greening MP of a military built and operated 62-bed Ebola treatment centre, which the UK Government anticipates will be ready in mid-November. At present, the number of infected cases far exceeds the existing treatment centre capacity and with the number of new infected cases still rising exponentially, the additional 62-bed facility and other treatment centres in the pipeline will still be wholly inadequate. The vicious cycle of stretched treatment capacity leading to more infected cases and more deaths is set to continue. We therefore urge the UK Government to immediately dispatch additional disaster response teams to provide desperately needed treatment centres to end the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone.
