So after having spoken back and forth with the department of education they have said that national policies for schools are not their concern, instead they want schools to be more autonomous, each deciding their own policies. Disheartening as it may be that the department of education don't want to regulate education, the good news is that each school has the ability to put separate PE changing measures in place dependant on the priorities of the head teacher. As parents we have the right to expect a response to complaints and concerns about our children's education, health and safety, so I encourage you to raise the issue with your own schools. I have already experienced success in this regard as my daughter's school are currently in discussions about obtaining a changing screen to allow for more discretion and body privacy when changing. It's a start! The more of us who are able to make changes in our own schools the more the issue will be addressed on a national scale. Please continue to pass the petition around as I am convinced that the more attention this issue receives the more change we will be able to see in our schools and ultimately the lives of our children.
