Why this petition matters

Started by Ronnie George

We are asking for the RSPCA to cease their promotion of animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs which they often encourage the consumption of through advertising, social media posts and recipes provided on their website. It is time for the RSPCA to abandon their assurance scheme and to start actively promoting a vegan lifestyle towards their supporters. Issues with the assurance scheme include:

  1. Farms are required to pay fees for their products to become accredited, therefore providing monetary incentive for the RSPCA to approve as many farms as possible.
  2. Undercover investigations have shown that many farms with RSPCA approval do not meet the high welfare standards that would be expected of them and several cases of illegal mistreatment of animals on these farms have been documented and subsequently published.
  3. Due to the current pandemic, farms are no longer being inspected in person meaning the RSPCA are unable to provide honest accounts of welfare conditions to consumers.
  4. Promoting or even simply ignoring animal agriculture is in direct contradiction to the RSPCA’s core values of preventing cruelty to all animals. Many of the current standard legal practises within the animal agriculture industry are considered unnecessary acts of animal cruelty, such as the separation of dairy calves from their mothers, the use of farrowing crates for mother sows and the maceration of day-old baby chicks within the egg industry.

So much progress has been made in recent years with animal rights so it’s time for the RSPCA to evolve as well. Dropping the farm assurance scheme and instead advocating for the basic rights of all animals will undoubtedly inspire people to make choices that contribute to significantly less animal suffering.

A more compassionate world is on the horizon and the RSPCA needs to play its part. We are asking that they start this transition by doing the following:

  1. Remove the assurance scheme from farms and publicly acknowledge that there is no humane way to kill an animal.
  2. Remove all recipes from the RSPCA’s websites and social media platforms that contain animal flesh or other animal products.
  3. Begin frequent promotion or campaigns to encourage supporters and the general public to adopt a vegan lifestyle.
