STOP for run over cats.

STOP for run over cats.

My housemates cat PHANTOM was run over by a car at the end of our road and the driver didn't stop. A passerby stopped and sat with him for 4 hours!! He was a beautiful, loving and kind cat who wouldn't hurt a fly. He NEVER scratched a person, but a PERSON hit him and didn't think for a second about stopping. We lost our cat and never got to say goodbye. Don't let it be yours!!!
It took us 3 days to confirm that it was him that was hit! We are devastated.
The UK law states you must stop and report to the police if you hit a dog, farm animal or wildlife. If you fail to you could receive upto a £5000 fine. This is NOT the same for cats, the second most popular pet!
Cats are often picked up from the roadside and disposed of in landfills without being reported, scanned, or identified. Without their owners’ knowledge.
Although the government, local councils, and Highways England encourage reporting and scanning of any animals found in a public space (and all local authorities “should” have handheld scanning devices), this is not a common practice in the UK.
THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!!
