Transitioning from live exports to chilled meat and bring transparency to live exports

The Issue

Australia’s live export industry is an obscure system, which transports over 3 million sheep and cattle to foreign countries (nearly 20 countries)  that lack sufficient oversight to prevent cruelty to animals and ensure they have the full protection of Australia’s animal welfare laws. This petition seeks to make this system transparent, with the ultimate goal of transitioning fully away from live exports to chilled and frozen meat trade.

As a start we need to give organisations like the RSPCA a chance to provide oversight on transportation ships, as they have offered to do it for free but have been denied by the Australian Government. We also need the government to provide funding to farmers for necessary infrastructure and investing in developing the trade with new trade partners. This could be done by making it an election priority.

We also have to demand a transition away from live exports as an election priority and ensure Australia steps forward and pushes for our involvement with Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) and Livestock Global Assurance Program (LGAP) to ensure animal welfare and support Australia’s agricultural industry.

Join our cause and help support the RSPCA’s sister campaign through actions only you can do.
