Make it illegal to walk a dog in hot weather

Make it illegal to walk a dog in hot weather
The Issue
Walking dogs in hot weather is known, and proven to be hazardous to a dogs health. Yes, dogs need exercise but no dog ever died from missing a walk. By all means walk them in the cooler mornings or evenings but not during the day, especially not on hot tarmac. I believe we have to be the voice for our animals and I believe making this illegal would save many dogs lives.
When is it too hot to walk a dog?
It’s generally safe in temperatures of up to 19°C (68°F) Even at temperatures as low as 20°C (70°F) dogs are at risk of heat stroke.
Heat stroke in dogs is essentially a high temperature not caused by a fever. It occurs when dogs are no longer able to self-regulate and keep their temperature at a comfortable level. Check out our handy infographic below to know when it’s safe for your dog outside.
Worryingly, heat stroke in dogs can be fatal in as little as 15 minutes. Don’t take the risk and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun. If you think your dog has heat stroke, contact your vet immediately or, if out-of-hours, find your nearest emergency vet.
