My sister is a teacher, a wife, and mother of 4 year old twins. She and her husband saved up their money and booked a cruise with Royal Caribbean, scheduled to depart from Bayonne, NJ on Friday, November 2nd, 2012. On Monday, October 29th, their home was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Royal Caribbean is refusing to let them reschedule their cruise at ANY time. Also, Royal Caribbean has told them that they cannot receive even a partial refund. Adding insult to injury, the representative told my sister, "don't worry, just go and enjoy yourself." Her home is uninhabitable; toxic black mold will start to grow in the coming days; they won't have electricity again for 7-10 days, but Royal Caribbean advises, "Just go on the cruise anyway."
Hurricane Sandy: At high tide late Monday night, a massive wall of water hit my sister's house in Brick, New Jersey, collapsing carefully constructed defenses of more than one thousand pounds of sand bags. As my terrified niece and nephew woke to water crashing into their home, vicious winds and eight feet of water wreaked havoc. Everything on the ground floor (including the washer, dryer, furnace, and hot water heater) was immediately destroyed. The Christmas gifts that my sister had carefully purchased in advance, while on sale and affordable, were gone in an instant. They do not have flood insurance.
Royal Caribbean, do the right thing! Let my sister, Sarah Dunne of Brick, New Jersey, reschedule her cruise! She, her family, and her twins have already lost so much, why are you heartlessly compounding this tragedy? REFUND OR RESCHEDULE, ROYAL CARIBBEAN!!!
