Help Channing Ashbaugh leave her NCDSS living situation!
The Issue
Summary: Channing Ashbaugh, an Autistic woman in Charlotte, North Carolina, is seeking to leave her present living situation with a NCDSS caretaker.
Personal story: I am Channing's boyfriend with her Autism condition in common, and she is interested in getting next to me for life, as I am with her. We have especially been pen pals on and off for 28 years now since 1995, and have had quite a few phone conversations in this time frame. Sadly, there has never been a time that we have been able to get together in person!
The issue: Channing is not happy with her living situation with a North Carolina Department Of Social Services caretaker. Her family, particularly her father and brother, want nothing else to do with her, and her mother is presently in assisted living because of ailing with cancer, so she turned guardianship of Channing over to the North Carolina Department Of Social Services. She and I are very interested in getting together for life, and I am not well-versed in the law, what legal hoops we would have to jump through in order to be able to get next to each other for life. Our becoming husband and wife is our eventual goal. We both would need some help here and there in daily adult living responsibility, otherwise residing in our own home with the outside world leaving us alone most of the time. She is also being yelled at by her NCDSS caretaker, who is also yelling at her ailing mother!
Take action! If this petition doesn't win, then Channing is going to be stuck with a future she really will not like, being stuck at the mercy of the dictates of the NCDSS, and a marital relationship is the dream she and I share. She and I are both sick of being so far apart from each other! It certainly beats me how to get the guardianship North Carolina has over her successfully overturned!
