Adoption of my grandson's Shyon Johnson and Syncere Benjamin

The Issue

It is painful to even have to write this!

Hello everyone, I know it's been awhile.

It is now 2021 and I'm still fighting to bring my grandson's home from
Michigan to live with me while their mom is in prison for second degree
murder for the self-defense death of her abusive boyfriend. On Jan 9,
2018 my daughter got arrested. As soon as I got the call, I put on my
shoes to take a ride with my oldest son to go and get my daughters
children.

I have been trying to get my grandkids back home ever since. I haven
been there for them since their conception. Luckily, God has blessed
them with a loving foster family and we have an unbreakable bond. In the
meantime, I go to Michigan often to see my grandkids, buy clothes,
shoes, toys and whatever else they want. My grandkids ask me every time
I go to Michigan to visit them if they can go home with me. It breaks my
heart to leave them behind.

The state of Michigan has put me through so much red tape. For the first
year, they couldn't tell me what they wanted from me in order to get the
kids back. I took the initiative of asking them if I needed to move to
Michigan and I was told no. I went ahead and took foster parenting
classes to improve my chances. North Carolina (where I currently live)
said I couldn't be licensed because of my past from long ago. I was so
fed up that I called the Governors office and spoke with someone in the
interstate compact by the name of Kimarre. She was very helpful and she
reached out to Michigan, gave them some tips and instructed them on what
to to put in their packet to North Carolina. I got my fingerprints done
and sent them to the North Carolina SBI and they came back clean. I
don't have any felonies or violent charges in the state. I did all of this to
prove I am serious and ready to have my grandkids in my custody.  I
reached out to Governors office last week to make an appointment where I
could sit down with him and ask how to get my grandchildren back home
with me if the state is not giving me any answers. I have recommendation
letters from Michigan. I even have the judge's support from the family
court along with guardian of ligtem, even the foster family want my
grandkids to be with me.

Here I am, a grandmother that has dedicated the last three years trying
to bring Shyon and Syncere home to be with the family that supports,
loves and misses them. This is why it's important for me to get my story
out there because I need the public to help me fight this battle. For
anyone who has ever fallen on hard times and had the support of family
members to be there for your small children, you can understand how
devastating it would be to have your children placed with strangers
instead of the only family they have ever known.

To Governor Cooper: I voted for you, I pay my taxes and I need my
governor to show up for me and my grandkids. I want all the politicians
in North Carolina to show up and support me and my family. North
Carolina talks about reunification and now is the time for them to prove
it. These children can't handle another disappointment nor can they
afford the mental or emotional trauma that would go along with them
being placed with total strangers again. They are mentally and
emotionally damaged with all they have been through. They will need

stability and unconditional love from their grandmother and family. I ask you Governor Cooper to assist in providing the proper legal channels
to reunite me and my grandchildren. No family should have to go through
this.
