Hello everyone. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Rowan University has chosen to postpone this year’s commencement and MAYBE have it in the summer. I’m a graduating senior and I’m creating this Change.org petition to hold commencement for the class of 2020 no matter how late into the year, or even if we have to graduate with the class of 2021. President Ali Houshmand said, “While I hope with all my heart that we will be able to proceed with Commencement events, our plan for a summer ceremony COULD CHANGE, given how rapidly this public health crisis is evolving.” This is completely understandable, and everyone’s safety and health should come first. However, this once-in-a-lifetime experience should not be taken away from the class of 2020. Our students have worked way too hard to have this important event taken away from them. We all deserve to walk across that stage, toss our hats, take pictures with friends and family, and honor our hard work and dedication. We ask Rowan University to hold our graduation ceremony no matter the timing. All graduating seniors deserve to walk, and while we understand that the university is not at fault for the situation we are in, we need to push the university to totally commit to holding commencement regardless of the timing for all of our graduating seniors. Please sign this petition so that Rowan University will commit to holding a traditional commencement ceremony for our Class of 2020 no matter how late. Thank you.
