Rowan University: Universal Pass System
The Issue
The number of cases and deaths from the Corona Virus is increasing nationally every day, and so are the measures to protect from the virus. Furthermore, the efforts to protect New Jersey residents exceed that of the national efforts as of Saturday.
Students and families (whether these be student or teachers) should have their undivided attention on the health and safety of themselves and their families during this time of crisis, not on an experimental style of education.
From a practicality standpoint, students who are sheltered in place at locations without connection to the internet will not have the opportunity to complete online coursework.
For students who have had strong academic semesters up to this point, it is not right for them to be expected to continue their performance without full access to faculty and resources.
For students who are currently not passing their coursework, it would not be in the better interest of the student body to give these students the burden of improving their struggling grades through this non-conventional course medium.
When you couple the above circumstances with the general panic of current times and potential hardships students may be facing as the result of COVID-19, as a whole for the betterment of the student body Rowan University should use a Universal Pass System for Spring 2020.
