My little brother began his 8th grade track season with the goal to break 5:00 in 1600 meter race. His goal was not met because of the coronavirus but another goal of his was to break the conference meet record which he only needed a 1 second personal record to do. The previous record set by Zach Marchinko in 2012 was a 5:07. Eli ran a 5:04 twice in the shortened season that they had. Unfortunately because of the coronavirus Eli was not able to run the conference meet which is the only place where middle schoolers are allowed to set the record. For this very unusual circumstance I am not asking for the conference record to be lowered to sub 5:00 in which my brother did not run in a race, but to the 5:04 which he ran twice. Yes he most likely could have gotten lower but was not able to drop time because of the shortened season. By signing this petition you are supporting that the new middle school conference meet 1600 meter record should be changed to Eli Julian with a time of 5:04. By signing you are also saying that this should not be just for my brother but for any other 8th grade male/female track athletes and relay teams who set conference records during the regular season but were not able to compete in the conference meet because of the coronavirus (ex. Macy Miller and the girls high jump record).
