Let me start by saying! Thank You all for your support! I am writing this update to briefly share what has happened in our 40+hrs of heated meetings with the county. We are still living on our property! But we are continuing our fight but hopefully with a light at the end of the tunnel. Dealing with the planning department is still a nightmare, but luckily the planning commissioners sound open to creating a new definition that Dalton and I proposed for Routt County's Master Plan. The definition would possibly be called an "alternative dwelling unit" which would be a self contained unit designed for human habitation that does not require any permanent foundation, external hookups, or building permits. We proposed that after "x" number of days of camping you would be required to get a one-time minor use permit for an "alternative dwelling unit". The only criteria for this permit would be that you would need to prove that you are dealing with your waste in an acceptable manner. Proof can be provided in the form of a receipt or pictures of your composting or incinerating toilet. I feel that we are on the cusp of creating an affordable and environmentally sustainable form of living in Routt County and globally, but we still need all the support we can get. We have had multiple people from the community join us in the public meetings to help fight for our cause, and I can see the difference that numbers make. The planning department is still trying to pursue suit against us as all of this progress has been taking place. Even though in the midst of it all, it has been admitted that we fall under the current definition of camping. The pplanning staff continues to push back every time we make progress. So please continue to send this off to friends and family so that we can open up the doors to a solution to economical and sustainable living.
